Eagles on Fire, Rise of the Phoenix, Pastor Patrick Bottse, Suriname, South America,

There is a lesson in the Phoenix for all who desire a deeper walk with our Master the Lord Jesus Christ.

A lesson of life, more life and more life abundantly that only comes through dying and dying some more.

What can we learn from the Phoenix?

We learn that even in the midst of prosperity, we need a renewal stage, a recycling, an interruption of our status quo, a letting go of angels in order that archangels might appear. And if things haven't been prosperous and peaceful, the more we need the purifying fire, the renewing process. The Phoenix a mythological bird of world renown meaning. A mythological bird of great symbolic Christian meaning. The Dictionary Meaning: phoe·nix also phe·nix (feniks).

1. Mythology. A bird in Egyptian mythology that lived in the desert for 500 years and then consumed itself by fire, later to rise renewed from its ashes.

2. A person or thing of unsurpassed excellence or beauty; a paragon.

The Phoenix and Christianity

1. The phoenix lived for several centuries and then built its own funeral, then light it with a burning twig, threw itself on the flames, burned up, and after three days, it "rose again" to arise newborn from the ashes. Thus the phoenix became identified with the resurrection of Christ and became a symbol of both immortality and life after death.

2. Early-Christians adopted the phoenix to represent resurrection and immortality. The Phoenix symbolizes the character of Christ himself were He said: "I have the power to lay down my life and to take it up again"(John 10:18). Christ was consumed in the fires of passion and rose again on the third day; a triumph over death.

3. Job was aware of the Phoenix-Myth and referred to it in "Job 29:18". Job 29:18 "Then I said, 'I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.' The Hebrew word used for "sand" is "Chowl". This word "Chowl" has 3 meanings; 1)sand, 2)beach, 3)bird. My Dutch Bible does not use the word "sand" but the word "Feniks" which means "Phoenix".

Meditate on this: A nest and sand don't go together, nest and bird do go together. According to legend the nest was burned and the Phoenix arose new out of the flames. Job probably used this as an example for his generation that was aware of the myth.

What do we learn from the Phoenix?

  • That life's problems come to renew us .
  • We need the purging fire of GOD to work out our faith.
  • When we feel that we have nothing to give anymore(burned-out), GOD is able to make all things new and renew our youth as that of the eagle.
  • The fire is not the end, it's the beginning.

What you may see as your end, is God's way of launching you.

The wisdom of old that Job knew according to Egyptian-, Arabian-, Russian-, Jewish-, East-Indian- and Chinese mythology of a great fiery bird -- one who "spreads out his wings and catches the fiery rays of the sun." On these wings are enormous letters, saying, "Neither the earth produces me, nor the air, but only the wings of fire."

A bird that never dies, the Phoenix flies far ahead to the front, always scanning the landscape and distant space. Listen to its ancient symbolism "It represents our capacity for vision, for collecting sensory information about our environment and the events unfolding within it. The Phoenix, with it's great beauty, creates intense excitement and deathless inspiration."(Feng Shui) To the Chinese it is the symbol of high virtue and grace, of power and prosperity. It reflected the empress and only she could wear the Phoenix symbol. Like the bird that never dies, as Christians and ministers of flame the fire of the Holy Spirit burns within us for all to see.

Christ has paid the cost and we receive the power of the Holy Spirit. To the Early Church, they saw Christ in the story of the Phoenix, today to my network brethern, I pray you see it too! Beloved, if you are in a fiery trial, know that you too can come out of it renewed in Christ Jesus -- stronger, wiser and better than before.
